Philadelphia: As we open the month of February, this is the time where you find out where you stand in conference play as March Madness approaches, and that is what we had on Thursday night as the Drexel Dragons took on the James Madison University Dukes from Daskalakis Athletic Center on the campus of Drexel University in West Philadelphia. Drexel comes into the game with 9-14 (3-7 in CAA) and coming off a thrilling win over Northeastern on January 27, while James Madison enters battle with the Dragons with 6-17 (2-8 in CAA) and coming off a loss to College of Charleston also on January 27.
James Madison would open the scoring on a basket from Ramone Snowden for a 2-0 lead, Drexel would get on the board on the basket from Sammy Mojica to tie the game at two. Both teams would trade baskets, and at one point in the first half, the Dragons would have an eight-point lead at 30-22 with 1:08 left in the half. That would be the score at the half as the Dragons would make things look difficult for the Dukes.
In the second half, Drexel would increase the lead up to 9 at 42-33 with 13:50 left. The Dukes would go on a run which saw them on a couple occasions get the lead down to one, with the last one being 55-54 with 6:39 left. Drexel would answer the run by the Dukes and get the lead up to three, at 66-63, with 3:40 left. James Madison would tie the game at 74 on two foul shots from Matt Lewis with 27 seconds left. Drexel would retake the lead with 6 seconds left on two foul shots from Kurk Lee. James Madison had one final shot as Austin Williams came up with the game-saving Block; Drexel would hold on for 76-74 win. With the win, the Dragons now have won three games in a row and their record now stands at 10-14, (4-7 in CAA) as look to extend winning streak to four games when they play William & Mary on February 3. With the loss, James Madison falls to 6-18 (2-9 in CAA) and look to get back to their winning ways as they take on Towson on February 3.
