The Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a blockbuster trade this morning, sending a fourth round pick to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for star running back Jay Ajayi.

Ajayi burst into the running back spotlight last season when he rushed for over 1,200 yards and 8 TD’s, including 3 200+ yard games. Short term, the addition of Ajayi gives the Eagles a solid all around back who will allow them to win now, something they’ve already been doing. Long term, Ajayi still has a year and a half left on his rookie contract with cap hits of under a million dollars for both the remainder of this season and next year as well.

While Ajayi hasn’t been able to replicate his success from last season so far, a less than stellar passing game and a poor offensive line has certainly hindered him. While he may not play this Sunday against the Denver Broncos, Ajayi gives the Eagles a young and versatile weapon to support Carson Wentz.
