The Philadelphia Union continue to fill out their roster for the upcoming season with the signing of veteran defender Oguchi Onyewu. Onyewu, age 34, adds much experience to a young center back depth chart for the Union which consist of Richie Marquez (age 24), Joshua Yaro (22) and Ken Tribbett (24). Onyewu is listed as 6 ft. 4 in. and is from the Washington DC/Maryland area.

Onyewu started his professional career with Metz of Ligue 1. Afterwards, signing with teams such as Milan, Sporting CP, Queens Park Rangers. He last played for Charlton Athletic from 2014 to 2015. Since then, he has been on trial with New York City FC and Rangers.

From 2004 to 2014, Onyewu made 69 appearances for the United States National Team. Scoring 6 goals with the National team. He played in both the 2006 and 2010 World Cup.

While Marquez and Yaro are still the favorites to be the starters for the upcoming season, Onyewu gaves the Union a much needed veteran center back. Yaro and Tribbett both struggled at times last  year to due mistakes and injuries, if that continues again this year, Onyewu could see an increase in playing time later in the season.
