In many pundits, MLS betting tips for becoming champion at the end of the season are the Philadelphia Union. One of the main reasons for this is that they have a much easier schedule than last campaign and if they can capitalize they should be in with a very good chance.
The top three teams in the Western Conference all have to travel to Chester. Also, the Red Bull have to play them twice away from home and Philadelphia only has to go to North Jersey once.
Due to the unbalanced schedule in the MLS league along with the added two team expansion it has meant for the second year in a row that Union will not have to play away from home twice in a year. This gives Philadelphia an advantage which is why you will find them in most punters MLS soccer tips.
They play all the other teams in the Western Conference one time with away games in San Jose, Vancouver, Salt Lake, Kansas City, Los Angeles along with expansion Minnesota. They are at home against Colorado, Dallas, Seattle, Portland along with Houston. It means that The Union will play six away games and five at home during the 2017 campaign.
In the Eastern Conference, they play Montreal, Red Bull, along with D.C. United a total of three times. Only two matches will take place against Columbus, New England, NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando and Toronto.
The MLS fixture list is a mess and will need to be better organized at the start of next season. There has been little thought about how to cope with the added teams and many are playing each other three-time compared to twice. The schedule has been created through trying to get the largest TV interest along with basing matches on the rivalry. One thing is for sure that Red Bulls and NYC along with Seattle/Portland and Montreal/Toronto fans will not be complaining at seeing their teams go head to head three times.
Philadelphia Union Sign Jay Simpson
When Union signed Jay Simpson most fans were underwhelmed by the signing of the 28-year-old. He has mainly spent his time playing in the lower divisions of the English League. He arrived from Leyton Orient who is in the league two. During his time there he scored an impressive 36 times in 99 appearances with 25 of the goals been scored in the 2015-16 campaign.
Simpson started his career off at Arsenal but did not make the grade so he moves on to play for Hull City. In his mid-twenties, he took the unusual option of playing in Thailand which did not work out for him. He only scored twice during his 18-month spell there. From there he left back to England and played for Orient. Jay likes the ball to his feet and in the air, he is not great. If the Union can play to his strengths he is bound to be a success but if the tactics do not suit his game he could end up been yet another overseas flop.
