Dorial Green-Beckham for Dennis Kelly Swap is a Fantastic Trade
Green-Beckham was a second round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft who is a freak athlete; he is 6’6″ ran a 4.4 40 yard dash time at the Combine. With incredible size and speed, he is no doubt going to be a valuable asset to the Eagles receiving core. The Eagles desperately needed a target on the outside to bolster their Wide Receiver depth chart, but now it’s much less of an issue.
Another positive element to this trade is that it will light a fire under the Wide Receivers who are already there. The presence of a talent like Green-Beckham will put more pressure on Josh Huff and Nelson Agholor to catch the ball. If Green-Beckham puts in the work in Training Camp, he could ultimately end up with the No.1 spot on the depth chart and become the go-to guy on the outside. This will also let Jordan Mathews start in the slot where he is both more comfortable and a bigger threat.
The only concern with Dorial Green-Beckham is going to be his off-the-field issues. There has to be something concerning about him if Tennessee would let him go for an Offensive Guard in Dennis Kelly, who would never naturally earn a starting position on an NFL Offensive Line. Not to mention, they let go of a high-value draft pick, with a ton of potential. The Titans were in need of weapons on offensive, which is still confusing as to why they would give up DGB for next to nothing.
Some people are skeptical of Green-Beckham’s past, but there is something that all Eagles fans need to remember. This is a high value, low risk situation. If he doesn’t pan out, the only thing they have invested into him is Dennis Kelly, plus he’s only 23. Who knows, maybe Wentz and Dorial Green-Beckham will become the dynamic duo of the future in Philadelphia.
