Following the conclusion of the NFL owner’s meetings, which decided to send the Rams to Los Angeles for the upcoming season, speculation has run rampant as to when the Eagles might finally hire a head coach. Jason La Canfora and Tim McManus churned the rumor mills this afternoon:
Would not be surprised at all if Eagles and Giants had their coach in the next 24-48 hours as well

Get the sense that Eagles could announce their next head coach as early as tomorrow, which would eliminate Pederson. Thinking McAdoo.
— Tim McManus (@Tim_McManus) January 13, 2016
While McManus states that Pederson’s hire could not be announced, as he is still currently working for the Chiefs, the Andy Reid understudy could still be the man for the Eagles. As many have explained on social media, the Eagles could wait to announce Pederson’s hire after the weekend, when the chiefs are likely to be eliminated by the Patriots.A decision to name him the head coach could leak out via reports within the next day or two, fitting the predictions above.
As for the prediction that Ben McAdoo could be the man for the Eagles, Adam Schefter also expressed his opinion regarding the current Giants offensive coordinator on 97.5 The fanatic. Schefter, along with others in the media, said McAdoo left the Eagles impressed. However, the Giants would not be comfortable losing their prized coordinator, and may name McAdoo their head coach to keep him in New York. Though John Mara has been reported to seeking a proven head coach, the desire to keep McAdoo may prompt him to promote from within.
In terms of the other candidates, Duce Staley has largely been eliminated as a real candidate. However, if the players have their way and Pat Shurmur is named head coach, Duce Staley could easily be promoted to offensive coordinator. Staley was part of the four coaches who were reportedly staying aboard when the new coach arrives, so promoting both Shurmur and Staley could be a positive move for the front office, especially if the right external candidate doesn’t emerge.
The only proven coach in the pool is Tom Coughlin, who also impressed the Eagles staff, and was the only one to reportedly have a “pre-meeting” with owner Jeffery Lurie before meeting the interviewing party. Coughlin recently received interest in the 49ers, and could take a job in San Francisco if given an offer. However, with the 49ers having many more potential candidates than the Eagles, Coughlin may not be on the top of the 49ers coaching list. Coughlin may wish to bring McAdoo with him wherever he goes, but the team would need to compensate the Giants in order for McAdoo to make a lateral move to the Eagles.
The long, seemingly aimless search may well be reaching a conclusion, and one of McAdoo, Pederson, Shurmur, or Coughlin look to be in line for to be the next leader of the Philadelphia Eagles franchise.
UPDATE (01/13/15, 8:25 PM):Reports indicate that the Giants and offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo are working on a deal to name him head coach, which could be done tomorrrow. This would likely leave Pederson, Coughlin, and Shurmur as the remaining candidates for the Eagles job.
