BREAKING NEWS: Eagles announce the release of Coach Chip Kelly. Owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement tonight, “we appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward.” Offensive Coordinator, Pat Shurmur, will be the interim Head Coach during the Eagles final game this season versus the Giants.
Kelly went 26-21 during his three year stint with the Eagles. Kelly had high hopes for the Eagles this season with major trades and free agent signings including DeMarco Murray, Kiko Alonso, and Sam Bradford.
When asked a week ago, Shurmur was in favor of the return of Bradford, “He’s all along expressed to us that he enjoys what we’re doing. He likes our offense, he likes the culture here. And so it’s no surprise that that was revealed publicly. But, yeah, I hope he’s here for sure.”
Shurmur also believes Bradford is a franchise quarterback.
“I do. I really do. I’ve seen the best of him when he was young. I’ve seen him improve a lot throughout the year. And I certainly know a lot about him from working with him on a daily basis. I can just see that he’s excited about what the future would hold here.”
Obviously there will be many questions that will need to be answered over the offseason, such as the future of Murray, Nolan Carroll, Walter Thurmond, and Cedric Thornton. However, one question that will be on everybody’s mind will be who will be the next official Eagles Head Coach.
