It has been a very frustrating season thus far for Eagles fans, but that’s the way their season usually turn out, one game they completely forget to show up and the next they play lights out in all three phases. Probably the most frustrating part about the Eagles is their play on third downs, it’s either a dropped ball, the receiver not getting to the first down marker on his route or the penalties that get them into third and long situations. Also the lack of big plays down the field, yes they had on a week ago 57 yards from Bradford to Agholor, but other than that the offense has been very lackluster.

Although things seem to be improving for the offense and Bradford, the Eagles offense has only two touchdowns in each of their last five games. The defense and special teams have given the Eagles season new life, not the offense. Yes, the offense hasn’t messed up enough to lose games for the Eagles but, they also haven’t capitalized on the opportunities they are given.

The defense had a rocky start last week but after the 47 yard touchdown pass the Bills had to Sammy Watkins, they settled in and have kept the Eagles in the game and bailed out the offense yet again when they couldn’t get on last first down to close out the game.

Enough with the frustrations about the season. Currently, the Eagles are in a three-way tie for first with the Giants and Redskins. The Eagles have a head to head against both teams left, with the Redskins in Philly on the Dec 26th and the Eagles at the Giants on Jan 3rd.  The Eagles are very much alive in the NFC East division hunt but before those games that will decide the division, the Eagles have the Cardinals, which I believe will probably be their toughest game all year, even tougher than the Patriots, since Tom Brady didn’t have all his weapons when the two teams met.

Last year, the Eagles had a chance to win the game against the Cardinals after last second pass from Foles to Jordan Matthews but Matthews couldn’t keep his feet in bounds. The Cardinals will have Carson Palmer this year, whom the Cardinals didn’t have last year when these two teams met. He is having an MVP like year and Larry Fitzgerald is having a renaissance year and is already over 1,000 yards this season. The Eagles will have their hands full with Fitzgerald, Floyd, and Brown.

The division is still completely within reach in with a loss to the Cardinals this weekend, but a win sure would go a long way in helping their cause. I’m hoping for an Eagles win but I’m not predicting they will win. The Eagles don’t have the offensive weapons the Cardinals have, and Maxwell and Rowe will have their hands full with the trio of good wide receivers the Cardinals have in Floyd, Fitzgerald and Brown. Cardinals’ win 35-17, Palmer continues his MVP like season and throws for 300 yards and three touchdowns.
