Ryne Sandberg has just announced that he has resigned as the manager of the Philadelphia Phillies.

This decision was all on him, and Sandberg did not want to be in the way of anything happening or the progress, he felt that it was better to do this now rather than later.

Sandberg also mentioned that this decision is better for the organization. As he spoke about Philadelphia fans, he got emotional and spoke about the passion the Philadelphia fan-base shows daily.

Pete Mackanin will be the interim manager for the Phillies.  Ruben Amaro said that this was “sudden” for him. Sandberg has not addressed the players of this news but said he will talk to them. It was a depressing press conference as Sandberg, Gillick, and Amaro answered questions.

Sandberg just seemed overloaded with what has happened this year and was beyond ready to step down. I don’t think many expected this to happen this soon. Ryno knew he was going to be gone eventually, he just made it happen sooner. It’s not all his fault he was placed with very little talent but he didn’t help himself in his time here in Philadelphia.

Timing was strange but it makes sense as to why he wanted to step down. It’s not even July yet…

It’s gonna be a long summer Philadelphia.
