Well, as of my last posting, I violated my Cardinal rule. I wrote a posting in the heat of the moment, and let emotion get the better of me. So now, with the season behind us, let’s all take a deep breath, and view the season.
First, it was another 10-win season. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. But, just like last season, a double-digit win team is on the outside of the outside of the playoffs. Why? Well, the simple answer is, to win more games. Win that road game against Washington. Win that close game at San Francisco. And, whatever you do, don’t let a rookie get behind you, and lose the Arizona game the way you did.
But, that’s in the past. It cannot be undone. We can’t get Nick Foles to heal faster. What’s done is done. But, Coach Kelly, who isn’t a fan of defense, really needs to pay attention to something this offseason.
The secondary really needs to be addressed. Either address it through free agency, or through the draft, but really address the secondary. Dez Bryant made them look foolish. So did DeSean Jackson. And, at a time when the team needed them, their DB’s failed them.
The team could probably address the offensive line some more. The team suffered after early season injuries threw their depth into chaos. The backups played with no cohesiveness. Get some depth on the line, so that when things happen, as they always do in the NFL, the offense can retain its continuity.
The team is close, people. Again, as I wrote my last article in the heat of the Washington game, I was ready to think the Eagles couldn’t beat Tampa Bay. But, they’re close. A little here, a little there, and they’re back in the thick of the NFC race. Jeffrey Lurie has the money. Kelly has the scheme. Put it all together, and go get it. A team that has won 20 games in the past 2 seasons should not be taken lightly. This season will give them the hunger. Watching a division rival play this Saturday will give them the drive. 2015 will be different. Mark my words.
