Welcome Broad Sweet Bullies to the Philadelphia Sports Nation team! Run by Stephanie Ricci, Broad Sweet Bullies is a baking blog with a sports twist – an orange and black kind of sports twist. Baking is a hobby of Ricci and she wanted to combine her love for baking with her love for her favorite team, the Philadelphia Flyers. Hear a little bit from herself, below:

“Welcome, hockey and food fanatics!  Hockey season is 57 days away and the anticipation of a new (FULL) season is killing me. To pass the time, I’ve decided to mesh two of my most favorite things together: hockey & desserts.

I have to thank Liz at Stiller Snacks  for the idea of combining food & sports in a blog  (even though we will become enemies once football season arrives).

I’m dedicating this blog to my mom, the ultimate Flyers fan, who witnessed them win back to back cups in 1974 & 1975. She took me to my very first Flyers game at a young age against the Pittsburgh Penguins and my obsession started from there.  I remember that glorious day of setting foot in the Spectrum and getting to see the Legion of Doom face up against Lemieux & Jagr.

I love hockey because of the grittiness & speed. I love that players will return in the next period after breaking limbs, shattering jaws, and getting stitches. I love (and hate) sudden death and shoot outs. I love the enforcers and goalie fights. I love one-timers and slap shots. I love the playoffs and the Stanley Cup. Most of all, I love hockey so much because when I think of it, I think of my mom.”

We hope you enjoy this new series of articles, as hopefully you pick up some knowledge along the way from them – whether it be about baking or the Flyers!
