The Philadelphia Union are finally entering the spotlight in U.S. soccer. Superstar Jacl-Mac is taking them there.
Union forward Jack Mcinerney has been chosen for the U.S. CONCACAF Gold Cup roster. The winner of the 2013 Gold Cup will play the winner of the 2015 edition for a spot in the 2017 Confederations Cup.Other forwards on the team could include Landon Donovan, Herculez Gomez, and Chris Wondoloski. All three have notched caps for team USA in the past; intriguingly, Donovan is aiming to make a comeback into the side after a long layoff.
Mcinerney is the youngest of the group at age 20. His mesmerizing 2013 campaign has vaulted him into the forefront of MLS soccer. With 10 goals in a young season, Mcinerney looks ready to don the stars and stripes.
Besides Jozy Altidore’s dazzling form recently, no clear-cut top striker exists on the roster. However, with Mcinerney’s rise to MLS stardom, this could be the birth of a star. The sky will be the limit when Mcinerney begins his career on the international stage.
