The U.S. Men’s National Team concluded a torrid month of June with another World Cup Qualifying victory. The Americans defeated Honduras Tuesday in Sandy, Utah.The U.S. earned nine points in June towards their World Cup berth, beating Jamaica, Panama, and Honduras.
THe first half was dominated by team USA. Their wide play and link up work pushed play around the Honduras penalty box. Rarely was Honduras able to escape their own half of the pitch. However, the Americans could not convert this dominance into goals, entering half time scoreless.
A blistering second half unfolded similarly to the first. USA kept pressure constant through the wide areas, searching and prong for the game’s first goal. In the 73rd minute, swift linkup play on the left edge of the box found Jozy Altidore free. Altidore finished across the face of goal, rolling the ball into the opposite corner. The Americans would hold on for their fourth successive victory, and third in a row for Qualifying matches.
The Americans remain at the top of the hexagonal group, with a wealthy 13 points. Team USA took a huge step towards Brazil with a sensational performance in June.
