Team USA finally ended their winless drought in Jamaica, while doing so in dramatic fashion.

On a hot and humid Friday night, team USA got the job done. The starting 11–the same as the team that defeated Germany–came in with healthy confidence following the 4-3 victory. They achieved the required result, however difficult it became.

Team USA struck first on an excellent set piece. A beautiful corner floated into the path of forward Jozy Altidore. Altidore hammered home the heading chance, giving the Americans a crucial lead.

The ship was on cruise control until the dying embers of the match. A Jamaican free-kick flew into the net off of Jermaine Beckford’s head, leaving the Americans shell-shocked. The picture looked suddenly bleak.

Heads dropped. Sighs rang. The Americans were in serious jeopardy of a monumental step backward.

Unlikely hero Brad Evans saved the match for the Americans. With the USA on the counter attack, Micheal Bradley rolled the ball into the left corner of the box. Evans’ fading right footer flipped into the back of the net. Jubilation painted the faces of team USA, knowing that at last, they had won in Jamaica.

USA now stands with seven points, tied for first in the hexagonal pool.

Outstanding article, I just handed this onto a colleague who was doing a bit of research on that.
And he in fact bought me lunch since I discovered it for him.
