While Free Agency sits under 24 hours away, the Eagles have a trip for New York in late-April.
The Philadelphia Eagles have confirmed that they worked out QB Geno Smith Monday. The workout took place in Morgantown, West Virginia. ProFootball Talk’s Florio first broke the story regarding the Eagles’ interest in Smith. The Eagles currently boast five QBs on the roster in Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Dennis Dixon, Trent Edwards, and G.J Kinne.
In his senior season for the Mountaineers, Smith completed 71% of his 518 passes. Smith produced 4,205 yards, as well as 151 yards rushing. He scored 44 total touchdowns, and gave up six interceptions.
Smith figures to be available at four, where the Eagles pick. The QB is a rich man’s Michael Vick. At 6-3, Smith nullifies Vick’s issues of seeing over tall lineman, and throwing batted basses. The West Virginia QB is much better at reading defenses, and adjusting pre-snap.
The fact that the Eagles would flout six QBs is irrelevant. If the Eagles front office feels that Smith is the future of the franchise, everything else goes out the window. Success is priceless in today’s parodic NFL.
