The Eagles are clearly cleaning house.
With the franchise tag window opening Monday, Philadelphia will stay still. Multiple reports indicate that no Eagle free agent will receive the franchise tag. This comes as no surprise, with new Head Coach Chip Kelly looking to start fresh. Last year, the team used the tag on WR DeSean Jackson, then signed him to a five-year deal.
Of the notable free agents, CB Domonique Rogers-Cromartie is the top touted player. Rogers-Cromartie played well at times, leading the team in interceptions. However, the one-time Pro Bowler failed to fulfill expectations.
Were he given the tag, Rogers-Cromartie’s cap number would have sailed. According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rappaport, he would be set to earn $10.668 million in 2013.
The 2012 Eagles crashed down from 3-1 to 4-12, and the new coach will want to bring in his own players. This is all part of Chip Kelly’s process; a process to bring this team to relevance again.
