The deadwood is being cut.

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced the release of Offensive Tackle Demetress Belll. Bell signed a one-year contract last March.

Bell was brought in to fill Jason Peters’ void. Peters ruptured his Achilles tendon twice in March. The Eagles gave him a five-year deal, and penciled him in as the starter.

Bell was hardly that. He started 14 games due to injury, but never fulfilled expectations. He served as a liability through the season, making it hard to give the QB protection.

Ultimately, he did not fit in here in Philadelphia. Like many players of 2012, he failed to gel and find his niche. Ironically, he was in a system stereotyped to his athletic abilities.

This is merely the beginning of chopping down the forrest, with the deadwood going first.
