Kansas City Chiefs LB Javon Belcher was found dead this morning at Arrowhead Stadium.
Police investigators found out that he had fatally shot his girlfriend Kasandra early Saturday morning. The woman was later taken to a hospital, and shortly after deemed dead. Police spokesman Darin Snapp confirmed that Belcher’s mother, who had been visiting form New York, witnessed the incident and called 911.
Belcher then drove to the practice facility at Arrowhead and proceeded to talk to Head Coach Romeo Crennel and General Manager Scott Pioli, thanking them for all they had done for him. He then slowly walked away, and shot himself as they witnessed it.
Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt issued an official statement, saying, “The entire Chiefs family is deeply saddened by today’s events, and our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy, thoughts and prayers for the families and friends affected by this unthinkable tragedy.”
“We sincerely appreciate the expressions of sympathy and support we have received from so many in the Kansas City and NFL communities, and ask for continued prayers for the loved ones of those impacted. We will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities and work to ensure that the appropriate counseling resources are available to all members of the organization.”
Thoughts and prayers go out to Belcher and his family, as well as the family of his girlfriend. All of us here at Philadelphia Sports Nation send our condolences in these trying times.
