The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed DE Jason Babin Wednesday, according to various sources.
The Eagles released the nine year veteran Tuesday afternoon, after Babin failed to follow up his 18 sack 2011. He has only recorded 5.5 sacks thus far in 2012. Additionally, the Eagles plan to point to younger players such as Vinny Curry and former first-round pick Brandon Graham.
Babin, at 6-3 and 267 lbs, will receive a fresh start after the debacle in Philly. Babin also got into a dispute with fans, tweeting sarcastically, “There are 17 teams with the same record or worse than us. Thanks for being loyal fans.” Babin also spoke to the Philadelphia Inquirer a few weeks ago, complaining “It was upsetting that a few bad apples were chanting that kind of stuff. ”
The Jaguars claimed Babin off waivers, meaning they will assume his current contract and salary for the season. They then proceeded to place defensive tackle D’Anthony Smith was placed on injured reserve with a concussion/neck injury. According to Adam Schefter, the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins also placed claims on Babin, but the 2-9 Jaguars held the waiver priority. Jacksonville has yet to release a statement on the move.
Good luck, Mr. Babin. And sincerely, good riddance.
