Say it isn’t so…

Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz has been suspended by the league today for 25-games for testing positive for amphetamines.

Ruiz, 33-years old, is coming off another impressive season; one that earned him his first All-Star nod. The Phillies also just picked up the option on Ruiz’s contract earlier this month.

In a statement issued by the MLBPA, Ruiz had this to say:

“I am sincerely regretful for my mistake in taking a prohibited stimulant… I apologize to my teammates, the Phillies organization and the Philadelphia fans. I will serve the imposed 25-game suspension to begin the season and I look forward to returning to the field and working toward bringing a championship back to Philadelphia in 2013.”

8-players have been suspended for positive drug tests this season.

Ruiz will be allowed to practice with the team and participate in Spring Training this upcoming season.
