After receiving a public vote of confidence from head coach Andy Reid, Michael Vick did what leaders do: take action.
Vick organized a players-only meeting Wednesday, rallying the troops and instilling hope that there is still time to save the season, and even ensure that they book a second trip back to New Orleans twelve weeks from now.
The meeting included speeches by 10 or so players, all preaching the same message:
“We gotta turn this thing around,” said Tight End Brent Celek, one of the leaders of this team“We gotta turn it around quick. This season’s not lost, but there needs to be some drastic changes and we need to do it. It needs to be shown on the field.
On Thursday, Vick evoked the same determination in a text to ESPN’S Sal Paolantonio,:”Ready to make a playoff run. One play at a time. One game at a time.” Vick has lost no confidence, however, believing he is still one of the NFL’s elite
Vick, who is presumably being evaluated on a game-to-game basis after a string of poor performances, feels that he is worrying too much abut variables he can’t control, “I’ve got to get my swag back. I got to get back to playing football the way I love to play it and not worry about what’s going to happen. That’s out of my control. All I can control is how I play and how aggressive I can be” said Vick, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.
Will this meeting salvage the season? We shall soon find out, as Monday is just three days away.
